Premium Usage Guidelines
  • Permitted by the end user license
  • Not permitted by end user license
  • Only students who are currently enrolled in at least one Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) course in the member department may install the software on their personal computers.
  • Students who are in a member department but are not currently enrolled in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) that lead to credit or a certificate are not eligible to obtain DreamSpark Premium software for their personal computers.
  • An organization that has Faculty and/or Students currently teaching or taking one or more Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) courses may purchase a DreamSpark Premium subscription per eligible STEM department and distribute DreamSpark Premium software to the current STEM Faculty and Students within the Department that is enrolled in the DreamSpark subscription. Each STEM department of the organization must enroll in its own DreamSpark subscription.
  • An organization that has Faculty and/or Students teaching or taking Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) courses may purchase a DreamSpark Premium subscription but may not distribute DreamSpark Premium software to members of their organization who are not currently enrolled in one or more STEM courses of the Department that purchased the subscription, i.e. DreamSpark Premium software may not be distributed campus-wide.
  • Department considered Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) have a core area of studies aligning to the items listed here. This list is mean to be an indication and is not representative of all STEM courses in all countries.
  • Departments that do not offer a core area of study aligning to the items listed here do not qualify for the DreamSpark Premium subscription. If a department does not qualify, they should consider a DreamSpark Standard subscription.
  • The tools and technologies provided through the DreamSpark Premium subscription may only be used for academic instruction, academic projects, and non-commercial research.
  • Any product created with DreamSpark Premium software may be offered or used commercially only after the purchase of appropriate commercial licenses of any and all software products used during the product’s creation. The software obtained through DreamSpark Premium cannot be used to maintain the administrator or IT infrastructure of the organization or for activities that are not related to learning, teaching and research.
  • All users of software provided through DreamSpark Premium are prohibited from using DreamSpark Premium software for commercial purposes. The only exception is if students are developing Windows, Windows Phone apps and Games to publish on Microsoft app stores where students get free access.
  • Any product created with DreamSpark Premium software may be offered or used commercially only after the purchase of appropriate commercial licenses of any and all software products used during the product’s creation. The only exception is if students are developing Windows, Windows Phone apps and Games to publish on Microsoft app stores where students get free access.
  • Department, Faculty or Staff members who are directly involved with teaching or system administration related to DreamSpark Premium may install and use 2 copies the software on their personal computer (a) to support their education/teaching; (b) in non-commercial research; or (c) to design, develop, test, and demonstrate software programs for the above purposes.
  • Department, Faculty, or Staff members who are not directly involved with teaching or system administration related to DreamSpark Premium may not install the software on their personal computers. The software obtained through the DreamSpark Premium subscription of the student/faculty’s STEM department is personal to the respective student and faculty, and may not be shared, transferred, resold or assigned to others.
  • Member departments may install DreamSpark Premium software on all machines owned by their department but only for the purpose of learning, teaching and research. General purpose laboratories used for such general activities as email or web access, are excluded.
  • Member Departments should not install DreamSpark Premium software on Departmental machines with the intent of transferring them to or sharing them with a Non-DreamSpark Premium department. If a machine with DreamSpark Premium software is transferred to or shared with a non-member Department, the DreamSpark Premium software must first be removed. All software obtained through DreamSpark Premium is covered by the DreamSpark Premium Supplemental License regardless of where the software is installed. Organizations and Departments that provide software to faculty and students should not install DreamSpark Premium software on shared machines unless they feel that they can enforce the License.
  • The program administrator must authorize any access to the MSDN Subscribers Area or the ELMS download portal to other faculty members within the department. Only qualified students, faculty and administrators may have access to DreamSpark Premium product keys.
  • The program administrator (PA) may not allow any other faculty members or students to place orders for additional product keys via the Subscribers Area of the MSDN Web site. DreamSpark Premium product keys may not be sold, distributed, traded or given to anyone outside the qualified department or organization.
  • Member department can run the DreamSpark Premium Subscription software in a virtualized environment only to the extent such rights are granted by the individual application end user license of the respective software.   • Installing Windows client on a naked PC: The subscription’s administrator of the member department may install Windows Client only on computers within the Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) lab(s) of the STEM department that is the licensee under this program even if these computers do not already have a Windows client operating system installed on it, only if (i) the computers are owned by or leased to you, (ii) the computers will at all times remain physically located in the STEM lab(s) of the STEM department that is the licensee under this agreement, (iii) the products are used to support STEM learning, teaching and research relating to Microsoft technologies, and (iv) are not used for general purpose activities as web browsing or email access or non-STEM activities. If the use of the Windows operating system products included with the DreamSpark Premium Subscription will be used in any other way, a valid Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for a Windows operating system must first be affixed to the computer(s) on which the products are installed.
  • Installing Windows client on a naked PC: Individual students and faculty of the member Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) department may not install Windows client software on their personal computer if this computer is not already licensed to run a full version of a Windows client operating system on it, as evidenced by a valid Certificate of Authenticity (COA) for a Windows operating system affixed to the computer.
